Living Out the Parable of the Sower

Luke tells us that the people gladly received Jesus when he returned and, in fact, were waiting for him (Luke 8:26, 40). If Jesus had been simply visiting towns along the coast of the Sea of Galilee, no one could have expected Jesus to return to their village. Therefore, Jesus must have returned to his home town, Capernaum. It is the only city on the coast of the lake that could have rightfully expected him to return. Knowing this, and understanding that folks came to Jesus out of every city (Luke 8:4), puts the timeline of these events during a Jewish festival, probably the Feast of Purim that occurred in the twelfth month of the Jewish calendar. Liberty Has Responsibilities

Our liberty in Christ (Galatians 5:1) is not simply freedom to do as we please. Our liberty in Christ is true freedom only as we accept the responsibilities that the high cost of freedom brings us. All other so-called expressions of freedom end in slavery or addiction of one sort or another. Liberty in Christ is manifest in the fruit of the Spirit of Christ not a mystical experience. True spirituality is very practical and not so mystical as to be of no earthly good. Paul tells us that, if we follow after the Spirit of Christ, it will be evident in both our relationships and in the manner in which we use our wealth, whether that wealth is our time (life) or our material goods. Living Without License

In Galatians 5:13 Paul addresses the Galatians as brethren, showing he doesn’t consider that they have lost their salvation, as some assume through a misapplication of Galatians 4:19. If asked if I thought the freedom we are offered in Christ was absolute or liberty in measure, I would have to say that such freedom must be absolute. Otherwise, we are not free at all.
